A Finished Rough Draft That Needs Polishing

place royale

I have my rough draft completed for Book One of The Munroe Series, but since I haven’t worked out the timelines, I’m having issues with continuing the story.

It’s like I just want to keep writing, and starting another new manuscript.

I’m perplexed about whether or not to take the 130,000 original manuscript that was written back in 2008 and totally scrap it?

I could start the whole thing over and it would be so much easier if I did.

I’ve managed to introduce some characters too soon in my new manuscripts.

The Old one’s could be used as a basis or outline for the new manuscripts.

It would solve so many problems if I would swallow my pride and just say, that first manuscript was a practice run, now let’s get down to the real thing and start writing something spectacular.

I’m at a higher level of writing and grammar now.

After blogging daily for several months, I’ve learned a few tricks of the trade.

And I really want to work on making my books a funny read.

I think it would be wonderful to see someone having tears of joy after reading a chapter or two of one of my books.

Especially in this day and age while people are losing their jobs, and loved ones to illness, we could all use a little bit of laughter in our lives.

Deleted Blogs on Word Press and Squidoo

I removed some of my manuscript blogs and websites off the internet.

I wasn’t taking the time to update them and they were just crowding me out.

It’s going to take me a long time to rewrite the whole Munroe Series.

I know it’s going to need a lot of work.

I also don’t want to work on it for at least another six months, because I want to do something different.

I found out that I can’t just write a manuscript and hand it over to an editor, get it published and that’s it.

I thought that was the process.

But it’s not, you as an author are responsible for the sales and marketing of all your own books.

I need to learn about the ropes before I step out into the limelight.

I would hate to publish a book and have it not sell.

I must succeed and if I don’t think I will, then I pull back and take a look at the big picture.

What am I missing here?

Education for one.

I look at my manuscripts and then I read a best sellers book and think, I’m so far off their style of writing.

Mine is so simple, child like.

I’m being critical and I don’t know if I’m over reacting to this or not.

But I made the decision I do want to do something different.

I really wanted to see this in a movie, more than a book.

Maybe it will be better as a screen play.

I’m going to work on learning about screenplays and making movies.

It’s a hidden passion of mine and I’d like to tap into it and see what happens.

The Manuscript is Finally Finished!

I feel great because I finally finished book one of the Munroe Series – The Munroe Mansion.

I’ve been revising it now for the past month or so and now I’m checking the punctuation, did a final read through and added another 80 pages to it. :)

It just never ends.  I hope to finish it all next week, print it up and work on a one page synopsis.

I’ve been looking for Literary Agents and Publishers on the net and I found a few in FACEBOOK.

So I’ve joined the groups on there, in hopes of finding the right niche for me. :)

Creating Fictional Character Profiles On Squidoo – Cote de la Montagne, Quebec, Canada

cote de la montagne quebec canada

cote de la montagne quebec canada

I have created a fictional setting profile on Squidoo called Cote de La Montagne Quebec Canada.

I decided instead of having tons of written notes, it would be easier to have a visual photo album of how i’d want my characters to look.

Google is my inspiration!  I have found several great pictures so far and have only been working on about 7 of the 100 characters in The Munroe Series so far!

This is a big project and will probably take at least a year just to do all the sites the proper way.

I’m learning as I go and I like it because I can always create a seperate page for each character and just refer back to it while I’m writing.

Especially when there are 14 books in a series, you need to be somewhat organized in how the character looks in each book, that is until the 20th century then I’ll just put they colored their hair… LOL

I posted some lovely pictures of the REAL Cote de la Montagne which is located in Quebec, Canada.

I have created a fictional story, Inn, characters and murders around  Cote de la Montagne in The Munroe Series.

In The Munroe Mansion – The Beginning – Book One – Joseph Munroe visits the INN and obtains a permanent room for his many affairs of the heart.

Simon Boucher runs the place and we don’t see or hear much from him, other than he hands over a room key to Joseph whenever he visits.

Joseph has a secret entrance at the back of the inn to bring in his victims.

Simon is not aware of what Joseph is really up to, he just sees the bag of gold and keeps his mouth shut.

Joseph Munroe is a powerful man with an appetite for young girls.

He is known as the Virgin Slayer.

I’ve also added some of the story line to each fictional character for dramatic effect! :)

You can read more about the characters on The Munroe Series Character Profiles page.

View the beautiful pictures and fictional characters of Cote de la Montagne.

The Munroe Mansion – Book One

The Munroe Mansion Linda Michelle Randall

The Munroe Mansion Linda Michelle Randall

This is the first few Chapters of  The Munroe Mansion, a Mystery/Historical Romance set in the early 1900’s.  It’s about several families leaving London, England and coming to Canada to start a new life.

The Munroe Mansion is Book One of The Munroe Series of Twelve Books, yet to be published.  I will be posting the first few chapters of each book on their own sites.  I will add to them as I start completing each manuscript.

You will notice that I have numbered each little paragraph, this is for reference, so that if you leave the site, you can just jot down a number of where you want to start.

It’s a new concept and it’s my own idea, I also find this is a fabulous way to edit my manuscripts, by having a reference number and section.  I find it easier to read each section in little segments, of one hour at a time.

I know that online readers usually only spend 2 to 5 minutes reading stuff, so this should make it easier on you!

Joseph Munroe and Ophirah Ramsbottom

1

It was 1873 and Joseph Munroe a tall, brown haired Gentleman of means was looking for possible investment ideas from the local towns he visited.  He was planning to build a lumber mill in Montmorency Falls.  It had been his wife Ophirah who had overheard the women discussing the possibility of it over tea, Joseph was grateful for it.

2

The country had become a gold mine since the railway and canals created a passageway to the western part of Canada.  Joseph heard that he could receive unlimited water if he built a mill close to the St Lawrence Seaway Canal.  He also wanted to be the first to invest in a state of the art lumber mill.  Joseph would always start a business, turn a profit then sell it for much more then it was worth.  It had made him a very rich man.  Joseph’s blue eyes were always deep in thought.  Ideas would spill over each day and he would record them in his diary.  He was missing his wife Ophirah and could not wait to see her and his son Jake.

3

Jake had inherited both of his parent’s good looks with strawberry blonde hair, round blue eyes he was a tall and lanky child.  He was a hard working boy and loved to go hunting.  Joseph had promised upon his return that they would go hunt some rabbits.  Ophirah made the tastiest rabbit stew and always had the freshest vegetables from her garden.  Joseph stopped for a moment took in the beauty of the land.  There was a large waterfall high up the mountain with plenty of rich soil and vegetation around it.  Joseph would build a small cottage nearby with modern facilities in it.  He would sign the papers that day.  Joseph returned home with a smile on his face.

4

They built the mill in a few months and the cottage was adorable looking.  Mr. Edward Moisan had shown some interest in buying Josephs newly acquired investment and offered him a fair price.  He stood to make a fortune from it as another successful business venture for the famous Joseph Munroe.  His Father had taught him well, but had suddenly passed away while Joseph was in University.  At the time, he had been living at his Father’s Estate in London, England.  Joseph did not feel like it was home anymore so he left his inherited Estate and came to Canada to make his fortune.

5

Joseph had built a grand house.  It was in a secluded area, with just a few homes built here and there out in the country.  He would go into the small village if he needed anything.  The Munroe home was lovely with an English garden surrounding it and trails of creeping ivy making its way up to the triangular roof.  Joseph’s ancestors built the Mansion in 1773 almost a hundred years ago, according to the family diaries.  The view of the lake was stupendous so they had built a grand home up on a hill.

6

It was located near a village called Place Royale and within a few days travel of Quebec, Canada.  At the time, the only way to travel to the village was by a long, winding, dirt road that had a steep incline before reaching the outskirts of town located on the other side of the lake.  It was a treacherous and bumpy ride by horse or by carriage, in most cases, the easiest way was by canoe on the lake nearby.  Joseph and Ophirah Munroe had decided to build a large boathouse along the sandy shoreline of the circular lake for their canoe and rowboat.  It was a fantastic view with a waterfall off to the right and several homes nearby.

7

Ophirah Munroe was different then other woman, coming from a poor background she preferred to do things herself.  She had servants but they would usually be working beside her in the kitchen or in the garden.  Ophirah loved to cook but she also enjoyed creating an English garden.  She was planning to add a few herbs to her collection of plants this year.

8

Her son Jake shared the same interest in gardening and would often join his Mother during the planting season.  Jake hated pulling weeds, he would let the servants do most of the work as he caught bugs and worms to play with instead.  Jake’s favorite hobby was hunting with his Father.  He would proudly come home with a rabbit or a deer for dinner the next day.

9

Jake was good at skinning the animals but many a time he would take the credit for what a servant had done.  Jake just wanted his parents to be proud of his accomplishments.  Many times the servants would smile and think of how mischievous Master Jake was at times.  He would be climbing a tree, just before Sunday tea and would quickly change before the guests arrived.  After awhile his nanny had decided not to get him ready until the guests had arrived.  Joseph had found a map of hidden tunnels and passageways in the house and Jake had used them to his advantage many a time.

10

Jake would go to bed but soon after he would sneak into a passageway and go listen to the gossip of their visitors or his Mother and Father arguing about where they wanted to stay.  Joseph had met Ophirah one day while out on his horse with his neighbor and friend Anthony Atkins.  Anthony was a rich and wealthy boy whose Mansion was rather gothic and scary looking.  His relatives, considered dark and mysterious people, had many suspicions surrounding them.  People said that the Atkins dabbled in black magic and had mystical powers over people.  Once Joseph had asked Anthony about the tales and he had shrugged him off saying he did not know anything about it.  Ophirah had been out gathering wild flowers along the road when Joseph and Anthony had happened upon her.  Anthony had turned his nose up at her and could not understand why Joseph was interested in a poor girl.

11

Ophirah though was the loveliest vision of beauty around Place Royale.  She had fiery red hair and bright green eyes and a lovely smile.  She was a joyful woman, strong and independent.  Even though Ophirah lived in a poor home, her Father had seen to her education and Ophirah was well versed in music, and art, history.  Joseph fascinated by her beauty, wit, and charm imagine finding a woman who was equal in mental powers this would make him someone to be envied.  Joseph had looked down at the woman on the roadside and fallen in love instantly.

12

A few days later Joseph called on Ophirah Ramsbottom.  The small quaint home, almost hidden in the hillside, was a blur of activity upon the new guest arriving.  Mrs. Ramsbottom was in a panic for she had nothing to serve the fine gentle man who was sitting in the parlor.  Mr. Ramsbottom was leery of Joseph Munroe he had heard stories of his wild ways and was surprised when Joseph asked to court their daughter Ophirah.

13

At first, Mr. Ramsbottom feared that Joseph had his way with Ophirah and now he felt obligated to court her.  Joseph confided that he had fallen in love with her beauty and brains.  Mr. Ramsbottom felt nothing but pride at these words.  He had feared that men would shun his daughter for her knowledge and find her too direct and bossy for their liking.  He warned Joseph that Ophirah was unlike any other woman, with a strong mind and she would not change her ways for any man.  Joseph said he was fascinated with Ophirah and wanted to court her and make her his wife.  Mr. Ramsbottom smiled at this, he knew his Ophirah did not intend to ever marry any man; she loved her independence so he agreed.

14

He later regretted his decision when several months later, Joseph approached him and asked for his daughters hand in marriage.  To his surprise, Ophirah had fallen madly in love with Joseph and wanted to be Mrs. Munroe.  The wedding was a quiet one, Joseph had no living relatives, and he did not want the Ramsbottoms to feel out of place.  Anthony Atkins was acting quite surly towards Ophirah until he met her friend Lorraine Picard.

15

Lorraine Picard was from Paris, France and a lovely French woman who knew what she wanted.  She had heard of the great Anthony Atkins the architect and wanted to meet him.  She found out that the nefarious Joseph Munroe who was a close friend of Anthony Atkins, so she deliberately set out to win Ophirah’s trust and friendship was courting Ophirah Ramsbottom.

16

It had been at the town’s celebration where the two girls would meet.  Lorraine and Elsa Picard had decided to take a holiday and visit Place Royale in Canada.  Elsa knew of Lorraine’s desire to meet the famous Anthony Atkins so she had promised to help her sister in any way.  Lorraine was a woman who was a social climber.

17

Her family had educated both of their daughters at Luvena Carrington’s Finishing School for Young Ladies.  However, the great aunt who had been so generous with the girl’s education suddenly died and the two of them had to leave the school in shame.  Lorraine vowed that she would find a rich and wealthy man and climb up the highest ranks of society.  Elsa a timid and shy girl had decided to live a quiet life instead and wished to only marry and have children.

18

Elsa was the first to spot the very handsome Anthony Atkins and recognized him from his picture in the Canada Gazette earlier that year.  Lorraine watched Anthony and noticed that he ignored the women who were throwing themselves at him; she knew then that she had to walk by him and ignore him to get him to notice her.  Elsa in the meantime had struck up a conversation with Ophirah who was selling flowers at the Country Festival.  Lorraine was dressed in Paris Fashion and looked very becoming and sophisticated.  Joseph noticed her and pointed her out to Anthony who was amused by the big flouncy hat on top of Lorraine’s head.

19

Anthony made a snide remark about women’s fashion then waited for her to come over and start flirting with him.  Lorraine saw him, smiled, and walked away.  Anthony was perturbed; this beauty obviously rich had snubbed him.  It angered him and he asked Joseph to go and see if she was courting anyone.  Joseph did not feel like being involved so he went over to Ophirah to ask her to find out for him.

20

Elsa big smile caught Joseph’s eye and he walked up and introduced himself to her.  Elsa was flabbergasted that this man would even acknowledge her.  Ophirah was busy with her customers and had failed to notice her fiancé flirting with Miss Elsa Picard.  Lorraine had noticed and quickly walked over to stop it she said, “Elsa darling do introduce me to this dashing young man.”

21

It was Joseph’s turn to blush because Ophirah had overheard the booming voice and had a stricken look of fear on her face as she saw the beautiful Lorraine Picard there and worried that Joseph may fall for her charms.  He grabbed her gloved hand and raised it to his lips, “Hello there beautiful I am Joseph Munroe.  My friend Anthony Atkins would love to make your acquaintance?”  Lorraine nodded and said, “I am Lorraine Picard from Paris, France and this is my sister Elsa.”

22

Then she said, “Look Elsa homemade apple pie.”  She smiled and walked away.  Elsa looked perplexed after her sister and smiled warmly at Joseph, “She will not cater to Mr. Atkins, if he wants anything to do with her he has to make the first move.”  Joseph laughed heartily at this admonished as Elsa red with embarrassment place her hand over her mouth.  She mumbled, “I’m sorry I was thinking out loud.”  She turned and walked away after her sister.

23

Ophirah had come over to Josephs side and quietly said, “She’s a dashing handsome woman that Lorraine.”  Joseph could not help but notice the coldness in Ophirah’s voice or the look of hurt in her eyes.  He waited for her to make a scene but she did not she just turned and went back to selling flowers.  Joseph walked back over to Anthony and said, “Thanks to you, Ophirah is jealous of Lorraine Picard and poor Elsa has embarrassed herself by telling me the only way you will get to know Miss Lorraine Picard is if you introduce yourself to her and go after her.”

24

Anthony had a wicked grin on his face as he said, “Finally I am challenged, and I like this girl.  Did you find out where they are staying so that I might pursue this lovely beauty?”  Joseph shrugged his shoulders and said, “I’ll have to find a way to talk to Elsa without Ophirah’s knowledge, she still doesn’t’ trust me.”

25

Anthony laughed, “Can you blame her?  You have a reputation for being a rake and seducing young virgins to give you their virtue.”  Joseph cringed at this, “yes it has cost me plenty of money to be rid of all those babies.  It’s a good thing I know a doctor who does the procedure.”  Anthony shook his head and said, “That is where we differ my friend, I would never get rid of a child of mine.  Someday you may not be able to have children and you will regret the souls you have murdered.”

26

Joseph looked angry for a moment and said, “It’s not murder they are not fully developed.  Can that be considered murder?”  Anthony hissed, “Each child has a soul, it’s a living being therefore you take life away and it will come back to haunt you someday.”  Joseph signed, “My friend lets not quarrel, we both will never change our views on such things.  You distract Ophirah somehow and I will sneak off to speak to Elsa.  Tell her you’ve sent me to run an errand or something.”

27

As Joseph walked away, Ophirah had a bad feeling and noticed Anthony coming over to her and he said, “Not to worry my dear, I’ve sent him off to run an errand for me.  He shall not cross Lorraine Picard’s path now.  Ophirah let out a sigh of relief and profusely thanked Anthony.  Then he had an idea and said, “You know the saying is keep your friends close and your enemies closer.  You should become friends with Lorraine Picard, that way you can deter her away from Joseph and help me get her.”

28

Ophirah looked at him in shock, “My dear Anthony is it true?  Are you besotted with Miss Lorraine Picard?”  Anthony nodded ruefully, “I can’t help but wonder what kind of a woman wears a flouncy hat with a big feather in it at a country harvest.  She is like a peacock flaunting her feathers then playing hard to get with me.  Do you think she’s doing it intentionally because she wants me to notice her?”

29

Ophirah’s eyes narrowed and she said, “Do you think you’re the only one she wants?  I saw the way she was looking at my Joseph, all possessive and sure of herself.  That woman is dangerous; she knows she can get any man to fall at her feet within a minutes notice.  Never underestimate the power of a woman that knows what she is doing.  That woman will play you like a puppet and run your life.”

30

Anthony grinned and said, “I know, but honestly I could use a little organization don’t you think?”  Ophirah’s face softened and she smiled warmly; she noticed for the first time that Anthony was confiding in her like a friend rather than some poor girl looking to grab a rich man’s coat.  She said, “Anthony you have so much to offer a woman, she’d be crazy not to fall in love with you.”

31

She said it in such a revealing way then blushed.  Anthony looked at her in surprise and quietly asked, “Did you ever like me?”  Ophirah looked around and said, “Yes, you were the first one to catch my eye but then I fell in love with Joseph.  He was a little more persistent then you.”  Anthony roared at this he was delighted.  He had captured Ophirah’s heart before Joseph.  He could never crow about it to his friend, but then again, if Joseph started showing any interest in Lorraine Picard, he would flirt with the lovely Ophirah and that keep Joseph in check.

32

Joseph hated it when Anthony would always steal the affections of the girls he tried to woo.  It was a rivalry between them from time to time to see who could get a girl to fall in love with them first.  However if Joseph lost, then he would work to seduce them out of revenge, he just wanted to prove that he was better than Anthony was.

33

Mr. Atkins, who was a total gentle man, would never seduce a young virgin; he preferred his women attached.  That way there would be discrete lovers.  Anthony decided to stay by Ophirah’s side for the rest of the day and keep her company he never realized how beautiful a person she was until then.

34

Joseph had caught Elsa’s eye as she rounded the corner and he motioned to her to join him in the woods.  “I’m sorry but Anthony has sent me off on an errand and I wanted to talk to you some more, would you care to accompany me?”

35

Elsa was flattered as Lorraine came over to see why her sister had headed to the forest.  Joseph flirtingly said, “Lorraine you can join us in our adventure if you’d like?”  She smiled at him and let her guard down Joseph was such fun!

36

They hopped into an enclosed carriage and sped away towards Cote de La Montagne.  Joseph had heard about Paris women being good lovers and he had to know if it was true.  He asked, “Lorraine I hear that Paris women are said to be the best of lovers, is this true?”  Lorraine smiled smugly at this, winked at Elsa, and demurely said, “Is that anyway to talk to a lady?”

37

Joseph mocked her, “You may be a lady on the outside, but I’ve heard you’re a tigress on the inside.”  At first Lorraine looked scared then Joseph added, “Your secret affairs are safe with me.  My friends in England have warned me about you.  They say that you like married men.”

38

Lorraine was speechless as he turned to Elsa, “And you my dear are the virginal one I take it?”  Elsa blushed as he added, “You know men are more impressed with a woman who is good in bed then one that has her virtue still intact.  Especially rich men, they want someone with some experience.”

39

Lorraine huffed, “I beg your pardon Mr. Munroe, but really must you be so blatant?”  Joseph laughed, “I have no respect for women, I am a rake and proud of it.  Now what I want are you two in my bed.  I want to find out if Paris women are really the rage as they say.”

40

Both girls smiled wickedly and leaned over to kiss Joseph.  The carriage pulled up in front of an Inn in Cote de La Montagne, and with covered faces, the three got out and hurried in through the back entrance.

41

Joseph used the Inn many times for his indiscretions so Mr. Boucher was not at all surprised.  He handed Joseph the key to his room and the three of them spent the next two hours pleasuring one another.

42

When they were finished, Joseph sighed with satisfaction, “ladies it is true, Paris women are greater lovers.  I assume you are both staying at the Old Port Inn.  They nodded in agreement, Elsa quietly said, “Joseph thanks for making my first time wonderful.  My sister has been after me to learn the art of love making in bed and I am glad I did it with you.  You are a very talented man!  Now I know why so many women are seduced by you.”

43

Joseph said, “Yes but it was you who seduced me with your beauty!”  Elsa looked puzzled for a moment but then smiled.  Simon arranged for a carriage to take the girls to the Old Port Inn, while Joseph continued his journey towards Montmorency Falls.

44

Joseph knew he could never tell Anthony of what he had done, but he had the satisfaction of knowing that Anthony would definitely want to marry Lorraine Picard.  He would see to it, as for Elsa she was too plain and pathetic for him.

45

He wanted his beautiful Ophirah and after today, he decided it was time to get married to her.  So that she would no longer fear him being near other women, that way he could continue his indiscretions without hurting his little Ophirah.  He would go to Quebec and procure a marriage license and wedding rings.  He would have the local vicar marry the two of them at his place.

46

Ophirah felt nothing but panic when Joseph had been gone a few days, Anthony had come over to reassure her yet again that he had another errand for Joseph to run and this time it would be in Quebec so he would be gone for the rest of the week.  Anthony had received a letter from Joseph that he had some business of his own in Quebec.

47

Anthony wondered which filly had Joseph met this time.  Late one night, Anthony was awakened by his butler Mr. Munroe was there to see him.  He walked into his library and there was Joseph with a silly grin on his face.  Anthony asked, “Who was it this time?”  Joseph smiled then said, “I’m going to marry Ophirah in two weeks.”

48

Anthony’s face dropped in shock; he felt a strange twinge on his heart.  Joseph then said, “I spoke to Lorraine Picard and she would welcome your advances and would wish to marry you as well.”  Anthony stopped midair, “Welcome my advances?”  Joseph had a guarded look on his face, “Yes I’ve been told that Paris women are great lovers.  Elsa told me that while red faced the girl really does not know how to hold her tongue.”

49

Anthony roared with laughter, “I can’t believe how open she is, when I shall court the lovely Lorraine Picard?”  Joseph smiled, “I don’t think courting will be necessary, you really should marry her right away too.  We could have a double wedding.”  Joseph held up four wedding rings and two marriage licenses.

50

Anthony just looked at him and said, “You’re crazy you know, and how do you know Lorraine wants this?”  Joseph had a wicked gleam in his eye, “She personally informed me that she had purposed to come from Paris, France to meet the very wealthy and influential Anthony Atkins and would like to climb the highest ranks of society.  The women talks a lot when she’s drunk.”

51

Anthony’s eyes narrowed, “Drunk?”  Joseph mildly said, “You did ask me to find out where her heart was and I figured that would be the easiest.  I put a truth serum in her drink that made her a bit groggy and she told me everything.”  Anthony shook his head in disbelief, “There is no way that story is real.  Tell me how you really found out?”

52

Joseph mockingly said, “How do I usually find out things from women?”  Anthony gasped, “You bedded Elsa!  The poor girl, she will suffer shame what we will tell Ophirah!”  Joseph laughed, “My dear Ophirah shall never be aware of my philandering; you and I will make sure she’s happy to be Mrs. Munroe.”

53

Anthony grinned, “I’m glad she will be married soon, and then I can seduce her.”  Joseph laughed, “I doubt it if Ophirah would take you up on it.  She seems the type to stay faithful to a husband.  If you do seduce her, wait until after I have had an heir, I do not want there being any questions about it.  As for Lorraine, I’ll share my wife if you share yours?”

54

Anthony laughed, “listen to us, it’s like were bartering cattle or something.  We really are wicked are we not?  You know once I am married I do not share my woman.  My lovers yes, my wife no.”  Joseph shrugged his shoulders, “Well if you decide you want Ophirah in your bed, and then you will have to share!”

55

Anthony noticed that Joseph spoke with such confidence, he wondered, maybe Joseph had already bedded the lovely Lorraine Picard.  Why else would he be so sure to tell me to marry the woman then speak of how great Paris women were as lovers.  His eyes narrowed but he did not want to know the truth, he knew what Joseph was like and he was determined to have Ophirah as well.  Spending time with her had made him realize what a gem she was.  He would wait until she was with child before pursuing Ophirah.  He knew she had developed a sort of tenderness for him.  Once she realized that Joseph was having his flings, she being an independent woman would definitely want revenge and he would be the one to help provide it!

56

The next day Ophirah was relieved when Joseph came to call on her but wondered why he had to speak to her Father.  Probably something about his business trip, her Father was a wise man and it seemed that lately Joseph was coming to him for advice about his business matters.  Even though Ophirah’s Father was poor, he was well educated and very knowledgeable about trade and commerce.

57

Joseph had been delighted with Ophirah’s knowledge but had been ecstatic to find that Mr. Ramsbottom was very well versed in Politics as well.  The two would enjoy a few cigars and play some pool up at Joseph’s House.  Ophirah and her mother would usually go out and work on the garden.  Ophirah had been excited when Joseph had asked her to look at his garden.  He had made a gift of boxes of seeds from around the world.  Ophirah had been so thankful to have a real garden to tend to, she could order anything she wanted, and Joseph would pay for it.

58

The old servant, who went by the name Mr. Stalin, was there to assist her with the garden.  He could not understand why a woman would want to dirty her hands but he liked Miss Ramsbottom, she was so polite and kind.  He had hoped that Master Joseph would fall in love with this beautiful girl and not just use her for his bed.  The Master had never brought a woman to the house before, so there was hope, and he soon learned his wish would come true.

59

Mr. Ramsbottom had come out of the study with a shocked look on his face as Joseph grabbed Ophirah’s arm and they walked around the garden outside.  He got down on his knee by the fountain and said, “Ophirah I love you so darling, will you be my wife?”  Ophirah had tears of joy as she yelled “yes!”  She grabbed him and kissed him hard on the mouth.  Joseph was surprised at the feelings of fire the lit his groins.  No woman had ever aroused such a feeling in him before.  He informed her that they would be married in two weeks.  He said, “I will also have a surprise for you, but I can’t tell you just yet.”  She looked at his mischievous grin and wondered what he was up to this time.

60

Anthony had strolled into The Old Port Inn asking the whereabouts of Lorraine Picard and the innkeeper said that she had just left in a carriage with her sister to see Montmorency Falls.  Anthony climbed on his horse and headed down the road after them.

When he reached the falls, he noticed the two women sitting on a blanket with a picnic basket.  He strolled up feeling awkward and said, “Ladies I apologize for disturbing you, may I join you?”  Elsa smiled roundly and offered Anthony a seat.  Lorraine smiled and handed him a glass of wine.  “What bring you here Mr. Atkins?”  He looked at her and said, “You have my darling.  I’ve been told by Joseph that you welcome my advances.”

62

Lorraine looked caught off guard for a moment, flustered then held her tongue and waited. Anthony quietly said, “Can we go for a little walk alone please?”  He turned to Elsa, “This will only take a moment, I promise.”

63

They both got up and started walking towards the falls.  Anthony became very serious, “I put great trust in my friend Joseph’s judgment, and he’s like a brother to me.  He has suggested that I court you?”  Lorraine smiled and said, “Really, just court me?”

64

Anthony saw the look of desire in her eyes and leaned forward to kiss her.  His lips met hers and he felt the fire of love sweep over him, in an instant, he knew this woman knew how to pleasure a man.  He could tell by the delicate and succulent way she kissed his lips.”

65

Anthony drew in his breath with a gasp, “Actually no he said, and I quote, “you don’t need to court her, just marry her.  My dear Lorraine, will you marry me?”  Lorraine smiled triumphantly and noted that she had to thank Joseph for giving her Anthony and said, “Of course I will, what day?”

66

Anthony smiled, “Well Joseph took it upon himself to buy the wedding rings and marriage licenses, and he wants a joint wedding, just a quiet one.  It would be best in society’s eyes because we have not courted to do so.  I promise you we can have a lavish ball at my home and invite everyone of distinction.  Joseph tells me you intend to be a part of high society.  I am tired of the daughters being paraded before me now with my beautiful sophisticated wife, I am sure I shall enter society again and you my dear will be the envy of every woman in Canada and Europe.”

67

Lorraine laughed, “They will all wonder how I’ve captured your heart?  What shall I tell them?”  Anthony roared, “Tell them that you walked by me and ignored the great Anthony Atkins.  I had to make you take notice and the only way was to ask you to marry me.  Are you going to hate having a small wedding my aspiring social cat?”

68

Lorraine said, “I will make it an elegant event, even though small, it will be read in every newspaper.  I shall look much more charming then Ophirah.  I’m sure she will be relieved to know I am marrying you and not chasing Joseph.”

69

Anthony had a wicked grin on his face, “Actually Joseph doesn’t plan to tell her till after he’s married her.  We will have our ceremony after theirs.  Ophirah’s a bit strong minded she may take offense but once she is Joseph’s wife she will learn to submit to his way.”

70

Lorraine had a wicked gleam in her eye, “So Joseph is a bit of a tyrant that poor Ophirah hasn’t come across yet.  Not as wise as she thinks she is.  The woman is intolerable, she thinks she is better then everyone because of her beauty and brains.”

71

Anthony said, “Yes she is very beautiful and intelligent but my dear, she is not from Paris, where the women are famed to be great lovers.”  He pulled her close and kissed her again, this time with such passion and ardor.  Lorraine was flustered when he pulled away.  She wanted him but she had to control herself.  She did not want him to know what kind of a woman she really was.

72

Lorraine had bedded many men, mostly virgins but also married men.  The ones she had her affairs with were very discreet.  She had met a poor Spanish boy while travelling in Spain.  He was a wonderful lover but did not have a penny to his name.  He felt crushed when she had turned down his marriage proposal; however, she promised that their paths would cross again.

73

Chago Sima was his name and he was marvelous in bed.  He had taught her many things and she used it to her advantage to secure riches for herself by blackmailing the rich men that she seduced.  The great thing about Canada was that the men here were rich but unaware of any of the scandals in Paris, France.  So far, Lorraine had chosen her victims wisely, now she would no longer have to.

74

She captured Anthony Atkins, herald in society as a Tigress with claws, she knew of Anthony’s flings and would not care about it.  She intended to have her own lovers on the side and Anthony would probably enjoy exploring other avenues with her, but she would bide her time.  She knew the first thing he would want is an heir, and then she would be free to play the field.

75

Elsa noticed the triumphant glow on Lorraine’s face as the two of them walked back.  Anthony had a glow about him; Elsa wide eyed when Lorraine announced they would be married in two weeks.  Elsa felt shaken, she had been so dependant on her sister, now what would she do?  She would have to go back to Paris and be alone.

76

Anthony noticed the look of terror on Elsa’s face, “My dear I have a friend in England who owns a hotel, would you like working as a maid?”  Elsa nodded thankfully with relief.  She did not like it here in Canada she preferred Europe but England would be fine.  She would save her money and travel the world.  Maybe she would find a rich man too.  Joseph liked her enough to bed her, so it had given her some hope.

77

The wedding had been on a lovely day with the sun shining, potted flowers arranged in a row down the aisle as Ophirah walked down in a splendid gown.  Joseph had ordered one from Montreal after getting the measurements from Mrs. Ramsbottom.  He had also given a large sum of money to the Ramsbottoms to secure a better lifestyle for them.  He had introduced Mr. Ramsbottom to some of his colleagues and together they had started a company called Ramsbottom Consulting.  Now men would pay Mr. Ramsbottom for his words of wisdom and he soon became a success at it.

78

Ophirah was now Mrs. Munroe, but then she saw Anthony and Lorraine were getting married as well?  She could not believe Joseph’s deception!  She turned to him, “How dare you deceive me and do this?  I wanted this day to be special; I don’t want to share it with anyone else!”  She turned to run but Anthony grabbed her and quietly said, “We have become such close friends my dear Ophirah, it was my idea that I share your day with you.  Please do not ruin my wedding day by having a fit.  You have never had a fit in your life, why start now?”  Ophirah hugged him and apologized to the both of them, “I’m sorry Lorraine, and it was all such a shock.”  She hugged Lorraine and then proceeded to sit beside Joseph in a stormy silence.    While Anthony and Lorraine said their vows, Ophirah began to wonder what other secrets Joseph hid from her.

79

Moving into the grand Munroe house had been an experience.  Ophirah had never roamed the entire house before; she had not realized just how vast the rooms were.  She somehow felt like a stage had been set for her and she felt a kind of uneasiness come over her.

80

It was a few months later when she found out she was pregnant.  Being a strong woman, she had no signs of the usual morning sickness and was thankful for that.  Busy working on her garden one day she had gotten up quickly and fainted.  The doctor came to visit and that is when they found out she was with child.  Ophirah was determined that a child would not stop her from doing her usual things.

81

She went riding a few weeks later and a storm had come up suddenly from the east.  The lightening had flashed and her mare reared suddenly and Ophirah fell to the ground.  She had abdominal cramping right away and tried to walk back home but the pain was so intense bent over screaming in agony when the servant Mr. Stalin found her there.  Her mare had made a run straight to the barn and he grabbed the horse and rode back along the trail only to find her writhing in pain.  He quickly rode back to the house and sent a servant to fetch the doctor.

82

It was too late; Ophirah covered in blood lost the child.  She went into a deep depression over the next few months and stayed in bed.  Mr. Stalin took care of the garden while Ophirah was away.  He knew that she would come back soon to her beloved garden.

83

Lorraine and Anthony had come to visit.  Anthony went to talk to Ophirah while Lorraine waited in the library with Joseph.  Lorraine thought it unusual but when Anthony told her to hold her tongue, she complied.

84

Ophirah was surprised when Anthony walked into the room.  She felt horrid and so low and the tears welled up in her eyes.  Anthony grabbed her, hugged her, and gave her a passionate kiss.  He hoarsely said, “I cannot have you until you’ve given Joseph an heir.  That is the agreement we have.”

85

Ophirah looked up at him, “What if I cannot get pregnant again?  I may have damaged my uterus from the accident.”  Anthony looked at her, “You are a strong woman, and this isn’t like you to lie in bed for days and days.  You need to get up and start living your life again, and poor Joseph is suffering.  The man needs some loving!”

86

Ophirah sighed, “I hate having him, and he is so rough in bed.”  Anthony smiled and stroked her hair, “I shall be the most gentlest of lovers.  Now my dear you must get up soon and get better!”  She grinned and kissed him, “I have wanted to do that since the day I first laid eyes on you!”

87

Anthony sighed, “I should have married you myself, but honestly dear I wouldn’t want to cause you any misery.  I am a difficult man to live with; Lorraine is finding my working around the clock annoying.  I think she was planning to hold gala events every night or something.  You are a quiet girl and have no need for society and frills; I fear this is causing contention in my marriage.”

88

Ophirah smiled, “Have a few parties and let Lorraine make some friends, then when she wants to go out and socialize let her take Joseph with her.  He is pining away for society, I think he wants me to come along but really, I am uncomfortable with such gatherings.  Is Lorraine planning to have any heirs?”

89

Anthony shook his head, “Not at the moment, she doesn’t want to ruin her girlish figure.  We have decided not to have any children for now.”  Ophirah looked at him, “Are you happy with that decision?”  Anthony shook his head no, “I let her do what she wants, if I need an heir someday I will get one, but for the moment I enjoy the freedom we have in our marriage.  I’m sure Lorraine will be delighted to hear your idea, I think it’s a wonderful idea and Joseph will love it too!”

90

As soon as Anthony had gone up the stairs, Joseph had closed and locked the door.  He grabbed Lorraine, started kissing her madly, pulled up her dress, and quickly took her.  She gasped at the raptures and throbbing in her body.  They quickly composed themselves as the butler was trying to open the door; Joseph called out, “Stalin I think it’s stuck again, I really need to get this door latch fixed.  Remind me to take care of it tomorrow.”

91

He grinned and winked at Lorraine as she took a seat on the other side of the room.  Joseph wiggled the door and carefully unlocked it and wiggled it some more and finally he opened it.  The butler gave them a look but saw that Lorraine was sitting over by the window reading a magazine and thought nothing of it.

92

Joseph turned when he heard voices coming down the stairs.  He was surprised to see Ophirah with a certain glow on her face, looked with narrowed eyes at Anthony, and said, “You have created a miracle, and Ophirah is up and out of bed.  How can I thank you?”

93

Anthony smiled, “I reminded her of how great life is, and she’s agreed to start living it again.”  Joseph wondered what he meant by that, but he was happy to see Ophirah up; tonight he would visit her in bed.  He wanted to secure an heir that was his number one priority.  Anthony paused for a moment then said, “Lorraine darling I have wonderful news, Ophirah has suggested that you attend all the social events that you desire, and that you take Joseph along for company.  I can continue to work, Ophirah can enjoy her peace and quiet, and you two can enjoy the social life that you crave.  We have both noticed how boring we are as people and how unhappy the two of you are in this humble country side.”

94

Lorraine’s mouth had dropped for she had seen Ophirah’s blush and thought to herself, that minx she has to be somehow involved with Anthony.  Well two can play at this game.  I will just have to make sure that any heir she produces is Josephs and not Anthony’s, but then again, I can enjoy Joseph as much as I want now.

95

Lorraine brightly said, “It would be delightful to go dancing and get to know all of Canadian Society.  I hear they have the most wonderful balls and parties at Chateau Frontenac in Quebec.  Perhaps we shall bump into people from Paris that I know.”

96

Joseph smiled warmly at Lorraine, he could see the fire of desire in her eyes, he would definitely enjoy going to parties with her and on the way, and they could stop over at his nest in Cote de La Montagne for some fun.  The four of them sat around a table and played a few card games until late in the evening.  They said their goodbyes.

97

As soon as they left Joseph kissed Ophirah hard on the mouth and roughly tore open her clothes.  She told him to take it easy and so he slowed down a bit.  Ophirah did not feel comfortable there in the library and asked if they could instead go up to their room.  Joseph shook his head no and suggested lets do it in the garden it would be fun.

98

Ophirah sighed, “You know I’m not like that, I am going up to our room, if you want me, and then come up there.  She stormed out of the sitting room half dressed.  Stalin looked at her with pity in his eyes; Master Joseph was always so rough with her after he had been drinking.  He had heard many a row about it and felt sorry for her.  She deserved so much better.

99

Joseph snarled at him, “What are you looking at?”  Stalin quickly turned and scurried away back into the kitchen.  Joseph stormed up the stairs and screamed at Ophirah, “How dare you embarrass me in front of the servants.  He slapped her across the face, grabbed her, ripped her clothes off, and roughly took her.

100

Ophirah screamed in pain as he came up behind her and bent her over the bed.  Joseph did not care; he just wanted an heir from this wench.  What more did she want?  She had money, a home, and servants and now she would bear him a child.  He would forbid her to do any physical activities.  He would allow her to go for walks and do some gardening but she would have to bear this child and not lose it.  He hated bedding Ophirah she was so cold compared to Lorraine.  He could not wait to have Lorraine again, she loved being rough in bed.  She would welcome his advances with open arms.  Once he had an heir with Ophirah, he would not have to bother her again and told her so.

Hello world!

This is The Idea Girl from Twitter and Idea Girl Consulting is my business name.

I’ve enjoyed working on this novel since August of 2008, where in 30 days I wrote the original manuscript for the rest of the book.

The Munroe Mansion was written within 30 days of June 2009!

It didn’t take me long to write it, I already had the ideas for the story written down in my novel notes from 2008, but I had to expand the storyline so I wrote a 60,000 word manuscript.

I still have to finish writing the final chapters of Book One then I plan to send it to a publisher.

I’m assuming the genre for this book is Mystery, Historical Romance, if I’m wrong, please let me know.

This is my first NOVEL and I have to give credit to NaNoMoWri for inspiring me to write a script within 30 days.

The original question that I asked myself was… If I had a million dollars what would I buy?

I started by writing the end of the book (It was called The Mansion on the Hill) then I got the bright idea to go back a few generations and start with the grandparents.  I’ve ended up creating over 100 characters!

So my story started in 2018 and I went back to the late 1800’s to make it a Historical Romance.  I’ve written Eleven parts to this story, each 10,000 plus word count.

I’m thinking of expanding each section to 60,000 words and call it The Munroe Series.  There will be twelve books in total when I’m done.
